ACTIVITIES:
Hosted by Larry and Carolyn.

Campers who made the trek to the Lake of the Ozarks were: Brinkman, Charpiot, Ehrhard, Ford, Hunter, Luzynski, Stanton, Stiern, Tschannen and Weeks.

All ten rigs were in camp by dinnertime on Thursday. Hy-Vee was the place where most went to eat. The evening was spent gossiping and getting caught up on the activities of the last month.

On Friday folks were out on their own visiting such local attractions as the Outlet Mall, Menards and the Linn Creek Apple Butter Festival. Dinner was at JJ Twigs where everyone enjoyed their meal. (Don’t we always??) In the evening games were available in the Rec Room, but Cardinal Baseball was on most folk’s minds so it was off to the TVs to watch.

Saturday was a busy day, which began with each couple making a tin can luminary at Carolyn’s Craft Shoppe. Mid-day, after packing a picnic lunch, we set off on a mystery trip which took us into Lake of the Ozarks State Park, over two Depression Era cable suspension bridges and winding up on the banks of the Grand Glaize Creek where we had lunch tried to skip rocks and enjoyed the warm sun along with the peace and quiet. A great potluck dinner was followed by an evening at the Main Street Music Hall for an entertaining show of nostalgic 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music.

September 14th – 16th: Hosted by Dale and Linda

LOCATION: The Crosseyed Cricket
74 Hwy–W (I-44 Exit 230)
Stanton, MO 63709
phone: 1-888-562-4498

Campers included the following memberships: Brinkman, Charpiot, Chumbler, Ehrhard, Ford, Stanton, Tschannen and Weeks. Honorary members, Jim and Mag joined in on Saturday and stayed with us until after dinner.

Five rigs had settled in by dinnertime on Thursday and in the spirit of “LEO” we all went to the “Du Kum Inn” for our evening repast.

An overnight rain lasted as sprinkles into Friday morning. As the skies cleared several decided to visit Meramec Caverns where some took the tour while others explored the gift shop. On the return tip to the campground we stopped to visit a chainsaw carver’s shop. His widow gave us an interesting description of the some of the prize-winning carvings and her husband’s life. Dinner was “potluck” with the Hunter’s providing pulled pork as the main dish. With bellies again full the group retired to the meeting room for a game of “Gab and Pass-the- trash”

Saturday was highlighted by a trip to the St. Clair Museum (see pictures later in this Newsletter). The history of the mining efforts and the early way of life in the area proved to be most interesting. The presenter, a native of the area, was obviously knowledgeable and enjoyed telling us her stories. Lunch was at the Lewis Café, another St Clair landmark. After returning to camp to rest a little it was back to Sullivan and the “Du Kum Inn” for dinner (LEO strikes again). The evening was back to the rec-room for board games and pass-the- trash.

Sunday morning was started off with our traditional potluck breakfast and then followed by our business meeting and the trip home.

Following lunch, some folks went on to visit the Trail of Tears State Park, Tower Rock or Perryville Lake. Others returned to the campground to play games and gab at the pavilion. Dinner was arranged at Ponderosa, followed by pass-the-trash in the meeting room or fire watching at the Stiern’s fire pit.

Members present were: Basse, Brinkman, Charpiot, Chumbler, Erhard, Ford, Hunter, Johnson, Luzynski, and Weeks. Members of the Arvies Chapter of the Good Sam Club were also on the campground with us. Thanks to Sandy for the following rundown of the weekend’s activities: Most of the club came in early Thursday morning to try and beat the high heat. Thank goodness we had the beautiful room to stay cool in at Big Creek. Friday we ventured into Arcadia to visit the Arcadia Academy, which was the old Ursuline Academy. It is now a bakery, ice creamery and Bed and Breakfast. It was a very interesting tour into the past history of the Academy when it was a private girl’s school. They served us a yummy lunch with sandwiches made with homemade bread. No one could resist their homemade ice cream and cinnamon rolls. In spite of the heat, Janet and Fred cooked Brats and Hot Dogs Friday evening. We had so many great side dishes and desserts to fill everyone’s tummy. Irv and Dorothy provided Friday’s entertainment. Their trip to Alaska was played on the large screen in the room. It was very well done and many had beautiful pictures of Alaska. Irv and Dorothy even served popcorn in cute popcorn bags. Saturday started off with lunch from all the great food we had left from dinner the night before. (Nothing goes to waste in this club.) Patty and Craig provided the annual Big Creek Duck Race. With very low water some needed help to keep moving. Although a member of the “Arvies” snagged First place, Second was won by Jim E. Third was Renate E. and last but not least was Bette F. Janet and Fred treated everyone on a hot day with cold watermelon for a afternoon snack. Some went into the room to cool off and just talk or play board games. Then it was off to Ryno’s for more food. Everyone enjoyed the many choices of food. Back to the room for a evening of pass the trash with the women playing for 3 nickels and the men trying something new and playing for 3 quarters. The men’s game was received well by most. Even had the ballgame on big screen. Sunday was our potluck breakfast and the meeting. Janet and Fred did a wonderful job hosting in spite of the hot weather.
